Experience: Nicola is a dedicated vocalist with a distinctive
low, smoky voice and an accurate ear for harmony. A well-trained
musician whose naturally deep bluesy tone suits blues, jazz, folk,
commercial and improvised styles. She has trained with award winning
jazz vocalist Anita Wardell and the equally well known Trudy Kerr.
With over 10 years experience performing and recording, she has
sung with originals pop and rock bands, function & club bands, jazz
vocal ensembles & quartet, performed for cabaret and recorded session
vocals. Most recently she has worked with the London based group
'Bassistry' with whom she has recorded 'In time' (High-barn label)
working with some of the most sort after jazz musicians in the country.
Nicola has a close working relationship with singer Katy Seath.
They formed collaboration in 2003 and began performing, recording
and teaching together. They currently perform as duo 'Cherry Sundae'.
Nicola is also a highly respected piano and singing teacher, working
regularly in Colchester and in the performing arts. She is director
of 'Umbrella Music & Arts' providing vocal & performing arts workshops
for schools and summer schools. In 2004 she established a Colchester
based rock/pop youth choir with Katy Seath for which they received
the Colchester Youth award for arts (2005). She currently runs a
gospel choir and teaches contemporary voice at the Colchester Institute.
